Data Mode | Data Value | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Data Availability | Data available | |
Informatics: First Contact | Lower Secondary | |
Informatics: Availability of Courses | Yes |
The situation in Austria is a little bit diverse. At Gymnasium it is mainly elective, as in vocational secondary schools where it depends on their specilaisation on IT. There are some with focus on IT, where the final exam (Matura) obligatorilly includes also IT/Informatics. |
Informatics: Curriculum Consistency | Country |
UNCLEAR (EN): In upper secondary schools, general and vocational education the informatics curriculum is consistent. In grammar schools it is very open, in vocational schools the subject is application oriented. |
Informatics: Enrolment | 10-24% |
That is very difficult to say. As an estimation 20%-30% may be a possible answer. |
Digital Literacy: First Contact | Primary |
It depends. In many - not all - primary schools (age-group 9-10) pupils come into contact with computers and the internet, mostly with some PCs in the classrooms, little with computer rooms. Some schools are introducing and experimenting with tablets. |
Digital Literacy: A Separate Subject? | Integrated |
It depends. Due to school autonomy in lower secondary there are schools with an obligatory separate subject, most commonly it is integrated - but not sufficiently - in other subjects. A current campaigne "Kein Kind ohne digitale Kompetenzen" is promoting "digital competencies". There are still efforts (from some to many promoters) to establish a subject in its own right. |
Digital Literacy: Curriculum Consistency | School |
Digital literacy is articulated in the curricula of almost all subjects. In case that there is a separate subject Informatics, there are autonomous curricula developed at the particular school. |
